When we measure the creativity of young children, virtually all of them will record as being ‘highly creative’. However, only a small percentage of adults register as being ‘highly creative’.

What happened?

Schools have crushed creativity. We were told to color within the lines. We were taught to follow instructions. The goal in
school is to get the “right” answer. Unfortunately, if you’re afraid to be wrong, you’ll never be creative or original.

The job of education is to produce employees who follow instructions. And to this endeavor, they are doing a
very good job. However, in terms of creativity, they are falling terribly short.

This is one of the most unfortunate realities in our current education system.

To undo this, we must continuallyexercise our creative juices. That’s why I have put together 6 tips for expanding your creativity.

1. Keep a Notebook and Pencil on hand at all times.

Ideas are like in-laws, you never know when they’re coming over to visit. By keeping a notebook around, you will always
be able to capture your ideas at any time of the day.

Leonardo da Vinci was well known for keeping a journal of his ideas. His notebooks are now prized possessions that hold
the many creative and genius thoughts of this master thinker, painter, and inventor.

His notebooks were filled with plans for flying machines, a parachute, a helicopter, the extendable ladder, the bicycle,
folding furniture, and a number of automated tools for increasing productivity.

Yes, I am happy to say that Leonardo da Vinci was a productivity junkie.

A blank page is an open invitation for the creative and curious mind. The simple act of writing gets you into a
creative flow that can last for hours.

The free-flowing, exploratory practice of keeping a journal encourages freedom of thought and expanded perspectives.

Lifehack ha publicado un interesante artículo, en donde se describen diversos pasos o puntos a tomar en cuenta, si es que, algún día, queremos convertirnos en “genios creativos”.

Cuando medimos la creatividad de niños, virtualmente todos ellos estarán bajo el rubro de “altamente creativo”. Sin embargo, en la adultez, son pocos los que alcanzan dicho mérito.

    Que pasó?

Los colegios han aplastado la creatividad. Nos dijeron que pintemos dentro de las líneas, que sigamos instrucciones. La meta del colegio es obtener la respuesta “correcta”. Desafortunadamente, si uno está temeroso de estar equivocado, nunca llegaremos a ser creativos, u originales.

El trabajo de la educación, es producir empleados que seguirán instrucciones. Y están haciendo un muy buen trabajo. Sin embargo, en términos creativos, están fallando terriblemente.

Para deshacer esto, tenemos que ejercitar continuamente nuestros “jugos creativos”. Es por ello que he puesto 6 tips que expandirán nuestra creatividad.

    Mantener un lápiz y papel a la mando en todo momento.

Las ideas son como los suegros, nunca se sabe cuando vendrán a visitarnos. Al mantener un cuadernillo cerca, siempre podremos capturar nuestras ideas en cualquier momento del día.

Leonardo da Vinci era conocido por mantener un diario de sus ideas. Su cuadernos son ahora preciadas posesiones que tienen muchos de sus creativos pensamientos.

Una página en blanco es una invitación abierta para la mente creativa y curiosa. El acto simple de escribir nos envía a un flujo creativo que puede durar horas. Mantener un diario ayuda al pensamiento libre, y perspectivas expandidas.

    Para ser un genio creativo, uno debe ser también un voraz lector

La lectura mejora la habilidad mental, y nos permite experimentar el mundo de una nueva perspectiva.

Cuando leemos un libro, permitimos que nuestras perspectivas del mundo y experiencias se entremezclen con los personajes creados por el autor.

He encontrado en mi vida que, mientras más lea, más quiero saber. Leer se vuelve un insaciable deseo.

  Utilizar ambos lados del cerebro

Hay generalmente dos tipos de personas en este mundo: los “cerebro-izquierdo”, y los “cerebro derecho”.

En la mayoría de los casos, la gente son pensadores analíticos que disfrutan de la matemática, ciencia y lógica, o son, por otro lado, altamente imaginativos y creativos que se concentran en el “panorama general”.

Desafortunadamente, nuestros sistemas escolares generalmente prefieren a los que son “cerebro-izquierdo”; pensadores analíticos. Esto ha creado un mundo de empleados que son muy buenos en seguir direcciones, pero no tan bueno al desarrollar nuevas ideas.

Para romper el molde, debemos volvernos pensadores completos, holísticos. Uno puede llegar a esto a través de un poderoso método conocido como “mind mapping” (MAPAS MENTALES).

Mind Mapping fue usado por varios genios de la historia, como Miguel Angel, Mark Twain y Leonardo da Vinci.

Mind mapping es una actividad que abarca ambos lados del cerebro, despertando el lado creativo, tanto como el analítico.

Mind mapping también nos permite  generar nuevas ideas, cuando sean necesarias. No importa si la estamos utilizando para plantear metas personales, resolver problemas, o simplemente volvernos mejores “pensadores holísticos”.

Nuestra mente funciona con fotografías, asociando una idea a la próxima. Con el mind mapping, podemos continuar este natural proceso en el papel.

In most fires, it’s the smoke that will get you, and a source of fresh air can be a life saver.  So our inventor designed a way to snake a snorkel through the zigs and zags of your toilet, so you can breath sewer air instead of smoke.  Here’s our question… couldn’t he have, just as easily, invented the Faucet Snorkel instead?

¿Alguna vez se habían imaginado algo como ésto?. El hombre de la figura no está enfermo ni se ha vuelto loco; no está haciendo burbujas con el agua del retrete ni mucho menos. De hecho, éste es un invento que ha sido registrado ante la oficina de patentes de Estados Unidos, en el año de 1982. Éste snorkel para sanitarios tiene una función más importante de lo que parece. El invento fue diseñado para que el extremo de la manguera (27) siga hasta el compartimiento (25) a través de los clásicos zig-zag del retrete.

El objetivo de ésto, es obtener aire fresco en caso de un incendio en un edificio alto, en donde el humo es altamente tóxico y puede causar la muerte. Ojalá que alguna persona con malestar estomacal no haya usado el baño antes de que intentes tomar una bocanada de aire fresco con ésto.

Tener un ordenador conectado a Internet puede ser la principal causa de que nuestra productividad caiga en picado. Y es que Internet es demasiado entretenido.  A mi me ha pasado muchas veces, y creo que ya es hora de hacer algo al respecto.

Con el tiempo uno sufre lo que se acaba llamando por infotoxicación o intoxicación por exceso de información y no es otra cosa que tener demasiados focos de distracción que hacen que sea imposible centrarse en una sola cosa. Algunos métodos que uso para minimizar lo máximo posible estos focos (y con cierta eficacia) son:

1. Desactiva la descarga automática del email. El icono del correo en la bandeja con un bonito número es una llamada muy poderosa a leer el correo pendiente.

   Esto también se aplica con el lector de feeds y cualquier programa similar, la idea es tener que darle a “descargar ahora” manualmente cuando a ti te interese.

   De la misma forma, desactiva las notificaciones sonoras: a poco que te intentes concentrar se vuelven un incordio y te hacen pensar “tengo que revisar los correos/feeds pendientes”.

2. La mensajería instantánea es un acoso continuo. El no estar conectado es deseable, pero si no es posible intenta configurarlo lo mejor posible:
   • Desactiva las notificaciones sonoras: se aplica el tercer párrafo del primer punto exactamente igual.
   • Notificaciones visuales sólo una vez. En esto Kopete por defecto es muy agradable y un ejemplo a seguir, cuando te hablan aparece un cuadro para contestar/ignorar pero cuando minimizas la conversación no vuelve a aparecer el recuadro cuando te dicen algo nuevo a no ser que sea otra persona.
   • Ponte en estado ocupado: hay gente que “te molestará” igualmente (a veces ni te das cuenta del estado de la otra persona) pero algunas personas lo respetan y evitan hablarte por tonterias.
3. Música: depende.

   Por experiencia algunas personas “funcionan” mejor con un estilo de música que con otro, incluso sin música. El único inconveniente es al trabajar en grupo evitar elegir estilos que a unos les distraigan y a otros no.

Well, that depends on three main things, the length and complexity of your password, the speed of the hacker’s computer, and the speed of the hacker’s Internet connection.

Assuming the hacker has a reasonably fast connection and PC here is an estimate of the amount of time it would take to generate every possible combination of passwords for a given number of characters. After generating the list it’s just a matter of time before the computer runs through all the possibilities – or gets shut down trying.

Pay particular attention to the difference between using only lowercase characters and using all possible characters (uppercase, lowercase, and special characters – like @#$%^&*). Adding just one capital letter and one asterisk would change the processing time for an 8 character password from 2.4 days to 2.1 centuries.

Remember, these are just for an average computer, and these assume you aren’t using any word in the dictionary. If Google put their computer to work on it they’d finish about 1,000 times faster.

Now, I could go on for hours and hours more about all sorts of ways to compromise your security and generally make your life miserable – but 95% of those methods begin with compromising your weak password. So, why not just protect yourself from the start and sleep better at night?

Believe me, I understand the need to choose passwords that are memorable. But if you’re going to do that how about using something that no one is ever going to guess AND doesn’t contain any common word or phrase in it.

Here are some password tips:

1. Randomly substitute numbers for letters that look similar. The letter ‘o’ becomes the number ‘0′, or even better an ‘@’ or ‘*’. (i.e. – m0d3ltf0rd… like modelTford)
2. Randomly throw in capital letters (i.e. – Mod3lTF0rd)
3. Think of something you were attached to when you were younger, but DON’T CHOOSE A PERSON’S NAME! Every name plus every word in the dictionary will fail under a simple brute force attack.
4. Maybe a place you loved, or a specific car, an attraction from a vacation, or a favorite restaurant?
5. You really need to have different username / password combinations for everything. Remember, the technique is to break into anything you access just to figure out your standard password, then compromise everything else. This doesn’t work if you don’t use the same password everywhere.
6. Since it can be difficult to remember a ton of passwords, I recommend using Roboform. It will store all of your passwords in an encrypted format and allow you to use just one master password to access all of them. It will also automatically fill in forms on Web pages, and you can even get versions that allow you to take your password list with you on your PDA, phone or a USB key. 7. Once you’ve thought of a password, try Microsoft’s password strength tester to find out how secure it is.
